Understanding kahu
In Hawaiian culture, you do not call yourself your pet’s “owner.” You are referred to as their “Kahu.” The word Kahu has a deep meaning and is defined as the sacred role of a guardian, protector, steward or companion. Essentially, someone entrusted with the safe keeping of something precious - something cherished. What a Kahu protects is not their property. What they protect is a part of their soul.

The survivor, Mini, is one of the strongest doggos we’ve ever met. Abandoned with a fractured leg and an eye injury (along with countless emotional trauma), she was discovered on the terrace of a high-rise building, where she survived on almost nothing for 4-5 days. After being rescued, Mini endured weeks of renal treatment during fostering. Despite everything she went through, she blossomed back into a joyful puppy, now living her best life with us.
